People want fitness photography for a number of reasons...
The "gym look" has become a big thing for our high school seniors and college aged clients. High school girls are really into lifting weights to shape themselves and the dudes are into getting jacked. Whether it's weights or cardio or even yoga/calisthenics (body weight only movements), the gym culture has become a growing trend.
I work out at Spring Hill Fitness- an amazing spacious family-run gym in South Williamson County and we have a large amount of teens who are there after school, getting "gains."
Some of our clients are professional athletes or trainers who need photography (and video) for their social media or websites. We work with them on a concept and cool location before the shoot and then we bring all of the flashes, lighting and modifiers to pull off their vision.
Some are male or female bodybuilders who are looking for images to show off their progress or size or to use as marketing for their competitons/careers or just for personal use. They make the sacrifices to eat well and put in the time and effort to workout. They deserve to show it off and I become their biggest cheerleader!
Mia was a high school cheerleader, who is now graduated and working in the real estate industry. She is such a gorgeous girl, with popping blue eyes. And she is as cool as they come. We collaborated on a big model shoot, with the first look of the session being fitness themed. She showed up in a stunning- Lulemon influenced teal gym fit and bright white tennis shoes.
We met in Downtown Franklin, not too far from the Square. I decided to lead us up to the top of a parking structure and we did 2 or 3 setups over the course of a half an hour. Mia already has the "it" thing and I worked with her to create her Senior Pictures last year- so we already had a great flow going.
Photography Insight: I love to lead girls through a ton of movement, while we are diving into laughs and conversation. This brings out the spark that is already inside them. It was a very windy day, which Mia and I had to really work through and eventually use to our advantage.
As you can see in the finished images, Mia knocked it out of the park.
SLAY QUEEN SLAY!!!!
Mike is an athlete that I got to work with in St Louis on a boxing/fitness shoot. We shot indoors at a Downtown location. Obviously, the dude is yoked... so, he was a joy to work with
I have all of my dudes do some pushups or grab a dumbbell so that they get a nice pump in their muscles before we start the session. I use a few different formulas in order to use light and shadows to accentuate the muscle groups. I loved the hand wraps that Mike chose to wear for the shoot. I think they add that extra POP to the image, versus the typical boxing glove look.
We did a football senior portrait Sportrait session with standout 2024 Wide Reciever Brock Montgomery at Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro, TN. Brock committed and signed to play for one of my favorite Coaches, former UCLA and current UCONN head coach Jim Mora.
Brock is a big, athletic kid who puts in the time in the weightroom (6-1, 195) for sure! He teamed up with Quarterback Braden Graham to become the most lethal combo in Tennessee last year. He helped lead Riverdale to a 10-3 overall record and a 5-0 record in conference action… They beat Oakland to snap one of the biggest streaks in TN. Honored as Region 3-6A wide receiver of the year, Montgomery finished his senior season with 76 receptions for 1,295 yards and 17 touchdowns… Additionally, Montgomery led Riverdale in Receiving yards per game (107.9), and total touchdowns and receiving touchdowns (17).
Brock won a State Championship at Friendship Christian his Junior Year.
We shot all over the turf at Riverdale, going through an assortment of football poses and then did some super creative stuff with lighting. Brock brought his own ideas into the session, which was super cool. He had his entire family out for the shoot which gave the day a cool celebratory vibe. We talked about UConn and Coach Mora and how I am a UCLA fan and went to a bunch of their games during the Mora ERA.
